Scaling Prudential's Design System
Prudential 2016 - 2019

How do you create a design system from passion project to an enterprise wide open-source tool?

What began as a passion project for our team, grew into a tool for the entire company. I was a product owner and scrum master of the design system. Motivating our team to collaborate, incorporate their latest projects into the system, and growing the system to be scalable.

BACKGROUND

Our Design System grew out of the growing recognition of a trend within the industry. In order to capitalize on this growing trend, which improves onboarding, development efficiency, and produced a 50% increase in speed to market.

I was a Product Owner and Scrum Master for over 2 years. We began by creating initial sketch libraries. From there, we set out to create an open source website which we could easily share with coworkers regardless of location and across UX teams pocketed in different areas of the organization.

This allowed us to collaborate across the organization with many groups from marketing, various development teams, and helped us standardize our products and development process.
